Mel and Alex met at Cardiff University, both in their PhD year (we got ourselves a couple of smarties here!) and both moved to the US for work. Many of Alex's family members reside in Castiglioncello, a little seaside town just south of Livorno. After returning year after year to this beautiful place for vacations, it was only fitting that their wedding should be held here. Mel got ready at the very chic Villa Martini before walking across the road with her dad and bridesmaids (dressed in stunning vibrant orange!) and up the hill to Castello Pasquini, the castle at which the ceremony was to be held. Yup, you heard me, a castle. Stuff of photographers' dreams.... My favourite part of the ceremony was just afterwards, when Mel and Alex stood alone while everyone else celebrated and they said their vows quietly to each other (with intermittent kissing). One of the sweetest things I have ever seen.
After the family portraits at which I perfected the art of saying 'Perfetto!!!' (no pun intended), Mel and Alex and I wandered down to Il Cardellino to enjoy the view from the top deck and spent some time in the Pineta, before heading on over to the little bay where the reception was held. All of this was walking distance - love it! The reception was held at Astragalo, the local club, and involved a seven course seafood meal (I am still getting over the fact that I didn't take a photo of the teeny tiny baby squid) and dancing well into the night. What a perfect day.
